Knit-along update

How's every one doing with their knit along Color Affections.

I finished the first one for my sister :)  I am loving it - I hope she does to.  I think she will.

Then I decided, well I should start on mine.  However, there were a couple of problem.  First, the yarn that i loved and had picked out had 2 verigated yarns in it and well, we all know that was not going to end well.  Soooooo I went on a hunt for a third solid colour picked out the malabrigo sock colour Violetta Africana.  Super excited - WAIT - can't use it first 2 colours were lace weight and the sock weight just would not have worked out.  Back to the drawing board.
It would have been beautiful - it will be something else that's all.

This is what I ended up with - Madelinetosh Sport - I great replacement if you ask me.
Can't wait to have it knit up :)  :)  Here is my progress so far.  I love it .......
Hope you're having as much fun knitting your's as I am knitting mine.

What else has been  on my needles...........
Well there is the beautiful Sanibel shawl - it only takes 4 balls and it knit's up quickly and beautifully.

AND guess what has finally arrived - Nora Bellows "Noni Flowers" book.  If you love making knitted and/or felted flowers you have to come check this book out.  Wow - it's looks like a garden - minus the weeding and watering......

Well that's all for today.
Happy Knitting - see you soon.

July Knit Along - Color Affection

We're going to start a knit along.
You have heard about all the buz of the Color Affection Shawl by Veera Valimaki (available for purchase through Raverly raverly.com).  What a beautiful and non-stressful shawl.
So we thought we would have a Sweet Yarns knit along for the month of July.
Something wonderful to knit during the summer while enjoying the beautiful weather outside.

Happy Knitting :)

It's Knit In Public Week

Hello everyone - did you know that it's international Knit In Public Week.
I was thinking of grabbing my lawn chair and sitting out in the parking lot at the shop and knit outside this Saturday - weather permitting.  The shop is open from 10am - 3pm so I am thinking that every chance I get I will sit outside and knit during that time instead of knitting inside the shop :)  If you have some time and would like to join me that would be great :)

In Other News :)

I finished the lovely Liberty Wool Vest - so cute.  I really enjoyed knitting eith this yarn - what a treat.  Here's what it looks like.  We have some great colours instock.

The new issue of Simplified Living has just arrived - hot off the press.  We are featured in this issue with a cute pair fo easy felted slippers - hope you enjoy the project and this great magazine.  We do have copies available for purchase here at the store.

Here's a couple of the slippers knit up with Cabin Fever yarn - it felts beautifully.
I have taken the plunge and have started a "color affection" shawl - you can find the pattern on Ravelry.  This one is for my sister :)  Lucky girl.  I am making it with Madelinetosh sock - in colour ways Moss, Mansfields Garden Party and Oxblood.  I just love knitting with this yarn and this pattern is pretty addictive as well.  Come and check the Madeline Tosh Yarns - they are great and we will be bringing in more colours :)

I hope you are all enjoying your summer and finding some time to knit :)

Look Who I brought home :)

Well it has felt like summer for a couple of weeks and now all of a sudden back to the cold.  What's up with that?
I can't believe how fast time passes.  It just seems like yesterday I was telling you how excited I was to be going to the Knitter's Frolic in Toronto and a month has almost passed by.

Well, we had an awesome time and I highly recommend it.  So many vendors and interesting knitters and fibre enthusiasts.  I didn't get a chance to take any classes - but would definitely plan for it the next time.  Guess what I found at the Knitter's frolic - a beautiful sheep.  I couldn't leave her behind.
Here She is - Her name is "Bella" - what do you think :)
Here is my friend Janet carrying Bella to the car - the other shoppers stopped to say bye.

Here are some other pictures from the Knitter's Frolic - notice how everyone is smiling :)

Lyn from Cabin Fever - showing us some great hand dyed yarns made of Merino, Silk, Nylon and Silver :)  Had to get some - we now have it in the store with some beautiful shawlette patterns - come check it out.
Jane from Dye-Version Hand Dyed Fibres - oh the colours are so gorgeous.  We stock them as well :)

The ladies from Soak - what a great & fun bunch they were :)

Soooooo what kind of knitting have I been up to - well here is my updated on some of those projects I have been working on.....

One sock is done - YAHOOOOO - one more to go - started and working on the foot at the moment.  The pattern is Mock Cable Sock from the book "Socks from the Toe UP" by Wendy D Johnson.
Since I have finished the top down sweater (below) I thought I would start this cute little boys vest using Liberty Wool.  It's just a straight knit pattern and I'm really enjoying working with this yarn.  Check out the colours available at http://www.oldmillknitting.com/product.php?id=748.  Or come on in to see what we have in stock and how it's knitting up.

Here's my son Jordan with his newly completed socks made from Noro (Silk Garden Sock Yarn).  He can't wait to wear them snowboarding next year (oops I kind of missed this past snowboarding season)

There's more BUT that will be for next week.........................

Have a great weekend - enjoy the outdoors and some knitting time :)

Because of your great generousity we were able to raise $330 in cash and many donations of food, clothing, diapers, wipes, bedding ect were donated.
 Our Thank You Note
Some of the great items we received

Janet Rice-Bredin wrote a beautiful baby hat pattern that is sold for $2 with all proceeds going to the Infant Food Bank.  During the 2 weeks that we had the pattern for sale in April we raised $50.  Thank you Janet.  We will continue to carry this beautiful pattern and the proceeds will continue to be collected for the Infant Food Bank.

The hat mentioned is located above last row to the right green and blue with the leaves on top :)

OUR GRAND PRIZE WINNER WAS GABRIELLE.  She won the beuatiful basket of yarn and pattern books that was generously donated by WESTMINSTER FIBERS (we carry many of their yarns in our store).
 Thank You

Wednesday 25 April 2012

Did you hear!

Well the weather is finally behaving today and it looks like a gorgeous spring day.

As you know it's still BABY MONTH here and we are collecting Donation to be taken to the SUDBURY INFANT FOOD BANK.

The PRIZE basket has arrived :)  We are being sponsored by Westminster Fibers this year. The Basket is full of beautiful yarn and books.  What do you have to do for a chance to win this beautiful basket - bring in a donation for the Infant food bank and receive a ballot for the draw of this basket.

We are still knitting.........
Have you heard about our Sudbury Colours.  Fleece Artist is a company from Nova Scotia and they have dyed some beautiful yarns in colours ways specially for our shop and to represent our beautiful city.

We have these colours available in a sock yarn BFL Sock as well as in a 3ply Woolie and Silk blend.

Here are the colour names from left to right
Sudbury Rocks
City of Lakes
Big Nickel
Rainbow District
Sweet Yarns
We have started to knit socks with the sock yarns and it is great.  Love the feel and the way the socks are turning out (if I do say so myself).  I knit a beautiful little shawl out the of the Woolie Silk.  Come on is and see what it's like.

Here's my progress on some of those projects from last week:

Well here are the socks.  Since last week they have been "unknit" and then "reknit".  They didn't quite fit the person they were intended for.  It has now been tried on and "Yahooo"  it fits.  I have to say I am really enjoying the pattern - this has taught me how to do 2 stitch cabling with no cable needle - awesome :)

Here is the Top Down Sweater (by Cabin Fever).  I made it a little longer than as per pattern instructions - the baby it's going to is quite tall.  Well time to start on the sleeves tonight for our Top Down Class.

Heading down to the Toronto Knitters Frolic this weekend.  So Super excited - I have never been before.  I will take my camera and report back next week :)

Happy Knitting :)
